Walking in the Lake District

The English Lake District is an area of breathtaking scenery with picturesque Lakeland villages, wonderful lake and mountain views and myriad walks, from leisurely to challenging. Low Graythwaite Hall is ideally situated for discovering all that the Lake District has to offer.

Below are a couple of suggestions of walks that previous guests have enjoyed. We are happy to provide you with other suggestions and maps, walking routes and packed lunches for your day. We also fill your flasks for free!

We have had an Ordnance Survey Landranger map specially printed with Low Graythwaite Hall at the centre. It is the ideal map for planning days out and for getting to know an area and we are happy to lend it to our guests on request.

The Rusland Valley
A countryside ramble over quiet, secluded landscape with a surprisingly varied terrain of heathland, woodland, marshland as well as farmland with wooded hills all around. The pub in the middle of Oxen Park Village is ideal for refreshments.

Coniston Old Man via the Jack Diamond Path
The Jack Diamond Path up Coniston Old Man is one of the few paths in the Lake District named after an individual - unlike the other paths though, this one has a very recent history. Once you have gained the summit of Coniston Old Man then a round of Brim Fell, Dow Crag, Buck Pike, Brown Pike and a descent along the Walna Scar Road will make the perfect mountain day. The terrain includes a steep minor road, woodland, moorland, steep mountainside, high mountain ridges, exposed col and an old pack horse road.
